At AST, we recently had a double reason to celebrate: as well as successfully retaining our certification to the quality management standard ISO 9001:2015, we also passed our first-ever audit to the translation services standard ISO 17100:2015 with flying colours.
Obtaining this new certificate marks the culmination of several years of careful planning at AST as it is not something that can simply be done on a whim. During our rigorous two-day audit in March, we had to provide sound evidence of our risk-based approach and a robust understanding of the key opportunities and business risks at AST. We also needed to prove that we select our resources and manage our projects in a quality-oriented way that embraces the philosophy of continuous improvement.
Although the two standards differ in their scope, they have one major focus in common: quality is key. Clients who buy translation services that comply with ISO 17100:2015 can rest assured that their texts will be translated by an experienced native-speaker translator who is an expert in the relevant field and then revised by a second native speaker with the same credentials. This helps to ensure that any slips or inconsistencies are ironed out long before the texts reach their intended audience.
Investing the time and resources in securing this additional seal of quality thus demonstrates to our staff, our clients and other interested parties that we take the issue of quality in translation extremely seriously. Our new and existing clients can therefore feel safe in the knowledge that, when they do business with us, they are receiving a service that complies fully with the very latest quality standards and is geared towards their own commercial success.
