2017 – a year in review

Read time 2 m

Although we’re all now getting our teeth stuck into 2018, we take a moment here to look back on our most memorable events and proudest achievements from 2017 – AST’s best year yet!

Hellos, goodbyes and congratulations

Our team continues to grow as we welcomed Lauren to the translation team and Julija as the newest member of the project management team. We were also joined by Ayla, our new Project Management Intern, and Jamie who is our IT & Network Manager.#

We waved goodbye for now to Senior Project Specialist Alexandra, who is currently enjoying some time at home with her new baby, and Senior Translator Lindsay was reunited with us this year following her maternity leave.

We were delighted for Kim, our Senior Project Manager and Team Leader, when she got married in her home town in Germany earlier this year and wish her and her husband all the best for the future.

Our achievements

We are dedicated to maintaining a highly effective quality management system so we can offer our clients the best possible service. This is evidenced by the fact that we were one of the first UK-based translation companies to be certified to the latest quality management standard ISO 9001:2015. To attain this certification, we demonstrated a thorough understanding of quality and provided evidence of risk-based thinking and a striving for continuous improvement in our organisation and quality management system.

This year we took a few more steps in rolling out our client portal, which is a leading Translation Management System. We are continually updating the portal to add new features for our clients, meaning they can manage their accounts online with ease and view translation reports and quotes. The portal offers added security when ordering translations and sharing files and is able to automate translation projects, making the process fast and simple for our clients.

AST out and about

In September, Kim and Translator Charlotte visited the ATC Summit 2017 in London to represent the company, where they enjoyed seeing some of AST’s more long-distance associates – and meeting some new ones!

In October, Outi, our Translation Resources Coordinator, had the support of Project Manager Josie and translators Maisie and Berni as she represented AST at the Language Show in London. Our stand was a roaring success and we had a fantastic time making some great new contacts from the language industry.

Making memories

A new experience for us this year was our team-building afternoon which took us on a quest of discovery around Nottingham as we went head-to-head (in three teams) to find as many clues as we could in the allotted time to answer questions about our city. It was an ideal opportunity to get to see a different side to our colleagues and have fun out of the office.

We all got into the festive mood last month and donned our Christmas jumpers to raise money for Save the Children. And, as long-time fans of adorable animals, we also clubbed together to sponsor two gorgeous rescue donkeys this year so they can continue to live happily at the Donkey Sanctuary in Birmingham.

Finally, it is our pleasure to announce that we translated over six million words in 2017 and look forward to continuing to provide an excellent service for our clients in 2018.
