Project Management Internship

We are seeking a Project Management Intern with fluent English and German language skills for a fixed-term position in our busy translation company in Nottingham, UK. The role is ideally suited to current students at EU universities needing to spend time abroad in the UK (ERASMUS).

We offer you:

You will fulfil the following essential requirements:

  • Excellent English and German (ideally native-speaker level in German)
  • Strong MS Word and Excel skills
  • Background in languages, business or project management
  • Interest in the translation industry
  • A team player with problem-solving skills
  • Commercial awareness
  • Attention to detail
  • Competent numeracy skills and the ability to acquire new IT skills quickly

You will also ideally have one or more of the following:

  • Experience in a translations environment
  • Knowledge of an additional foreign language

The position entails the following main responsibilities:

  • Helping project managers to set up and place client jobs
  • Archiving completed projects
  • Drawing up purchase orders
  • Preparing and processing source and translation files
  • Creating and updating internal translation memories (TMs)
  • Monitoring supplier availability
  • Assisting with data analysis
  • Updating client-specific reference material
  • Checking project progress, costs and profit margins
  • Supporting colleagues with other projects on an ad hoc basis

As you gain more experience, you will also have the opportunity to:

  • Manage small jobs independently
  • Handle private clients and their enquiries
  • Carry out short translations on an ad hoc basis

Freelance German to English translators

We are currently recruiting freelance German to English translators and proofreaders specialising in engineering, IT, financial, legal, medical or marketing texts. If you are an experienced and motivated mother-tongue English freelance translator who fulfils one of the following experience criteria and has a solid translation background, you could be joining our freelance team:

  • a Bachelor’s degree in translation or modern languages (or equivalent) plus three years of full-time translation experience (two years if gained in house);
  • a Master’s degree in translation studies (or equivalent) plus two years of full-time professional translation experience (one year if gained in house);
  • five years of full-time professional translation experience.

We are continuously building our team of linguists. If you are an experienced and motivated native-speaker freelance translator who fulfils one of the following experience criteria, you could be joining our freelance team:

  • a Bachelor’s degree in translation or modern languages (or equivalent) plus three years of full-time translation experience (two years if gained in house);
  • a Master’s degree in translation studies (or equivalent) plus two years of full-time professional translation experience (one year if gained in house);
  • five years of full-time professional translation experience.

You will also need to specialise in engineering, financial, legal, medical or related marketing texts and be a competent user of Trados Studio 2014-2019 and/or MemoQ (own licence). In-house translation opportunities

Although we do not currently have any set vacancies for in-house translators, we are always happy to receive speculative applications from anyone with the right skills and qualifications looking to embark on or continue their translation career. Applicants will need to be native English speakers with a good degree in German, a flair for translation and an excellent English writing style. Internship and work experience opportunities

Internship and work experience opportunities

We offer four-week translation internships each summer to students and graduates of Modern Languages and Translation Studies who are interested in working as a translator. We also offer one-week work experience placements to school or university students who are interested in finding out more about working in the translation industry.
